Our Papal Lapbook!

I had HIGH hopes (unrealistic expectations)  for my kids EXCITEMENT over the Papal Conclave this week.  I have learned that sending Max to school, and him there 7 hours a day, is really squashing his desire to do anything academic at home.  I am forced to be creative in my attempts to bring faith into our home, a BIG challenge for me. I originally planned for this to be done last week, but that plan flew out the window when we battled colds in our house. My kids are really kinesthetic learners, and while they enjoy watching movies, trying to get them to watch the Conclave was really just too much to ask! I found this AWESOME Lapbook (Copyright Jessica at Shower of Roses). This woman is truly an inspiration for my lackadaisical homeschooling. I aspire to be this creative and involved someday. (yet another unrealistic expectation!!)

There were some parts of this that I left out. I just knew it was too overwhelming for my kiddies. I was really glad that Our family Bible has some BEAUTIFUL real life pictures of the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's Basilica, and more!! Max really did this one. I was going to have each child make one, but that idea (unrealistic expectation #3) went KAPUT after seeing how much work was involved. We are still working on this now that we know who our new Pope is. I saved the amazing POPE facts section to fill in once he was announced. I was on the edge of my seat, even if my kids didnt seem to be. I was often moved to tears in anticipation. We will be adding to our learning by coloring maps of South America ( Thanks, Jessica F.) and cooking some Argentinian food, starting here! God Bless, Pope Francis!!!
